Balancing aggression, approachability, and apparel scale.
The challenge was to create a bold, memorable identity for a brand named Bully Corp., which needed to balance a potentially aggressive name with an approachable, nostalgic aesthetic to appeal to a broad consumer base. The identity had to transcend the simplicity of a single logo, requiring a comprehensive system of graphic elements—including a primary mascot, secondary badges, and versatile typography—that could be easily applied to various merchandise formats, particularly apparel and headwear. The final identity needed to feel established, high-quality, and visually aggressive while maintaining a sense of irreverent fun.
Iconic mascot design with retro visual language.
Our approach centered on the creation of a powerful, iconic mascot that could personify the brand’s spirit. We designed the “Bully” character using bold, distinct line work and a cheerful, gap-toothed grin to soften the ‘bully’ concept and inject a sense of youthful energy and mischief. This was paired with a distressed, limited color palette (reddish-brown and cream) to establish a timeless, vintage sports aesthetic. By focusing on a high-detail mascot, a powerful slab-serif logotype, and creating secondary elements like the Academia seal and a standalone tooth icon, we built a modular system ensuring the brand remains instantly recognizable regardless of the application size or complexity.
Mascot concept, system expansion, and merchandise application.
The project began with Conceptualizing the Mascot, focusing on line weight and facial expression to achieve the desired blend of boldness and charm. This moved into Typography and Lockup Design, where the custom serif font was selected and paired with the mascot to create the primary logotype. The next phase was System Expansion, which involved developing the secondary assets, including the BC monogram, the standalone tooth icon, and the detailed Academia circular seal. The final phase was Merchandise Application, where the entire system was test-fit across various mockups, like t-shirts and hats, ensuring perfect scalability and visual impact across all physical products.
